Hi Barb,
Can the Algaefix or Algaway be used safely on ponds that have snails?

Thank you.

I have done 3 doses of Algae Fix in the last month and now all the green stringy stuff is brown string stuff which I am guessing is a good thing. I have to clean my filter a couple of times a week. I am assuming it is mostly the dead algae floating around. My water is crystal clear and everything is healthy, so I guess I will just keep up weekly treatments!

Thanks for the tip Tom. I've never heard of that but will give it a try. Anything to get rid of algae an easy and inexpensive way.

After 25 years of pond keeping I recently discovered a great way to get rid of string algae on water fall rocks and streams - Hydrogen Peroxide. This may sound scary but the stuff you can buy at the drug store is so diluted that it is very safe for the pond. I turn off the water fall, get a bottle of HP, climb up on the water fall and pore the HP all over the algae. Really drench it. Then let is sit for a few minutes and turn the waterfall back on.

By the next day you will be amazed at how clean your water fall is. If you missed some, do it again. The best part is that it stays clean for quite a while. If you just pull and scrape off algae, it is back in days. With HP it kills the algae completely, so it can take weeks or more to get a foothold again.

Enjoy your pond

You want to make sure you have a good holding tank for your fish while your cleaning your pond. A childs small swimming pool works great for this. It needs to have a larger surface area rather than depth for the fish. Just take some of your present pond water and put into the holding tank. Keep them in the shade and out of direct sunlight. When you finish cleaning your pond and refill it you would want to add de-chlor to the water if not well water. Take your fish and float them in the pond once again as you would new fish. You can use a large pastic bag for this. Make sure you keep them in the shade again and out of direct sunlight while floating them until they get use to the change of water temperatures. If you plan on keeping the fish in the holding tank for any long period you would want to put a small pump in it. I hope this helps but if you have any other questions let me know.

I AM GETTING READY TO CLEAN MY POND. IT ALREADY HAS ALGAE GROWING. I DO HAVE GOLDFISH THAT WINTER OVER IN THE POND. I WILL BE DRAINING THE POND TO CLEAN THE ALGAE. YOU DO NOT MENTION IF THE FISH CAN BE PUT BACK INTO THE POND WITH THE CLEANER. I WILL BE ADDING MY LILIES AND CAT TAIL PLANTS AFTER THE POND IS CLEAN. I WOULD APPRECIATE ANY INPUT YOU CAN GIVE ME. THANK YOU
